About This Job
District 05 – Unit 255 (Madison Parish) and Unit 215 (Morehouse Parish) – Construction Inspector Supervisor. This is a promotional opportunity for permanent DOTD employees only.
The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer (Engineer
6) by supervising a full unit operation including multiple teams of technicians and inspectors engaged in construction production compliance with plans, specifications and special provisions on a wide variety of highly technical projects, including highways, bridges, and flood works. The position is located in District 05/Unit 255/Madison Parish and District 05/Unit 215 Morehouse Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Project Engineer.
The incumbent must be self‑motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures;
- Six months of experience in sub‑professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures;
- Thirty semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics;
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology;
- Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Job Duties- Supervises daily project administration. Designates technician and inspector assignments to establish thorough inspection of construction projects (project‑to‑project assignment).
- Manages technical field operations (managing technical matters). Ensures preliminary project preparations and data collections to keep the P.E. office prepared and on schedule.
- Conducts performance evaluations, approves requests for leave, determines schedules and resolves disputes between employees.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Appointment type:
Promotional, only open to current permanent employees of DOTD.
Compensation:
Starting hourly rate $29.45/hr and maximum $53.02/hr.
