Head of Transport

We are looking for an experienced Head of Transport to lead and shape the strategic direction of a large and complex national transport network.

Reporting to the Transport Director, this role will play a critical leadership role in delivering operational excellence, driving network performance and shaping the future transport operating model across a major logistics and supply chain operation.

You will be responsible for the performance of the primary inbound transport network, working closely with key logistics partners and internal stakeholders, you will lead initiatives that improve cost efficiency, service performance and operational safety across the network.

Leading a central transport team, you will play a key role in developing transport strategy, optimising driver resource planning and delivering a high-performing operating model across primary, retail and e-commerce logistics operations.

What you’ll do:

Your key accountabilities will include:

• Setting the strategic direction for transport operations across primary, retail and e-commerce logistics networks
• Owning the performance of the primary inbound transport operating model
• Driving improvements in cost efficiency, service performance and network utilisation
• Leading integration initiatives across multiple logistics operations
• Working with stakeholders to define optimal driver resource levels and operating models
• Overseeing relationships and performance across key logistics partners and suppliers
• Shaping the long-term transport strategy including network optimisation and decarbonisation initiatives
• Championing safety, compliance and operational excellence across the transport function
• Leading and developing a high-performing national transport leadership team

Who you are:

We’re looking for an experienced transport leader with a strong track record managing large-scale, multi-site transport operations within complex logistics environments

Your skills and experience will include:

• Proven experience leading large transport operations and logistics networks
• Strong commercial and financial acumen with responsibility for significant transport budgets
• Experience managing large operational teams and influencing senior stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of transport compliance, safety and regulatory standards
• The ability to drive operational improvement and transformation in a complex logistics environment
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across a matrix organisation
