We are looking for an advocate working either part time or full time to join our team, giving a voice and support to vulnerable people throughout Hampshire. You will be meeting with service users in care homes, hospitals, their own homes or community settings, supporting them to understand their rights and access the appropriate care and support. You will also be supporting our Basingstoke based self‑advocacy group, promoting our service and developing projects with local communities.

You will receive mileage costs, in‑person supervision and peer support.

Whether you are just starting out, changing careers or coming back to work after a break, you will be committed to our organisational values of Independence, Empowerment, Inclusion and Respect. Ideally you will have previous experience of advocacy, working in a health, social care or related setting, working with vulnerable or disadvantaged people or the transferable skills that will support your move into this role.

You will have the ability to communicate with a wide range of people, an empathetic approach, and strong organisational skills. You will need the ability to travel using your own transport throughout Hampshire (and surrounding areas if required) as not all our service users live on public transport routes.

Speakeasy has been providing independent advocacy for over 20 years to people in Basingstoke and throughout Hampshire, but our roots are in the mid‑1990s as a local citizen advocacy project using volunteers to support adults with autism lead independent lives. Our Trustees include people with lived experience of disability and advocacy, and have regular listening exercises with service users to shape our services.

We are part of the national Advocacy Leaders Network as well as other voluntary sector and disability networks, regularly collaborating with local organisations to develop and deliver services.
