Job overview

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has re‑designed its Pathology services with new state‑of‑the‑art equipment and new laboratory, and with a new Lab Info Management System being installed later this year. An opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist within the field of Haematology and Blood Transfusion is now available.

The post holder will be highly skilled in the use of the latest techniques and complex instrumentation alongside more traditional manual methods of investigation. The individual will be expected to apply professional judgement and utilise specialist skills and knowledge to provide a timely result service to the clinician. The individual will be committed to formally maintaining their specialist skills and knowledge by appropriate training and self‑education.

The post holder will enjoy supporting the development and training of registered BMS and associate practitioner colleagues and play an active role in maintaining high standards of quality management, as well as taking a lead role in a specific responsibility commensurate with a band 6 role.

Main duties of the job

We provide a 24/7 diagnostic service and we can offer full time hours covering day, evening, night and weekends.

If you have the qualifications and experience (minimum IBMS specialist portfolio or IBMS accredited MSc) and wish to develop your knowledge and skills in haematology and blood transfusion, we are waiting to hear from you.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
  • State registration with the HCPC
  • Experience in UK Haematology lab
  • Membership of any other professional body
  • Evidence of CPD
Experience & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of haematology & transfusion acquired by lab experience and IBMS registration portfolio (or equivalent)
  • Working in a diagnostic laboratory at Specialist BMS level
Training
  • IBMS Specialist portfolio in Haematology and Transfusion
  • Advanced Training in relevant field
