Civil Design Engineer

Location:

Basingstoke
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 (DOE)
Working Pattern:
Hybrid & Flexible Working

I'm currently working with a well-established, multi-disciplinary Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering consultancy with a strong reputation across UK infrastructure. With over four decades of industry experience and a team of around 120 technical professionals, the business has achieved steady growth through a commitment to quality, collaboration and long-term client partnerships.

Due to continued expansion, they are now looking to appoint a Civil Design Engineer to join their team in Basingstoke.

This is a hands-on design role, reporting to the Discipline Lead, where you will support the delivery of drainage and infrastructure schemes across a wide range of UK projects. Their portfolio spans commercial, public sector, rail, residential and temporary works, offering genuine variety and strong technical exposure.

The Role

You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept design through to detailed design and delivery. Responsibilities will include:

Preparing detailed designs for drainage, highways and associated infrastructure works across residential, commercial, education and leisure developments
Producing technical drawings, calculations and supporting reports for planning and construction stages
Assisting with flood risk assessments and drainage strategies
Undertaking site visits, inspections and surveys to inform design development
Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver projects to programme and quality standards
Liaising with clients, local authorities and stakeholders
Supporting senior engineers in the preparation of tenders and fee proposals
This position offers strong hands-on technical exposure across the full project lifecycle, alongside structured mentoring and support for those working towards Chartership.

Preferred Experience

Experience using Causeway Flow or Micro Drainage (Causeway Flow preferred)
Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
Experience delivering drainage design for residential, commercial or similar developments
Understanding of UK design standards and planning requirements
Awareness of flood risk assessments and planning support documentation
Working towards Chartered status (ICE) or with the ambition to do so
Sector experience in infrastructure design
A proactive and collaborative approach with strong communication skills
Full UK driving licence and access to own transport
Permanent right to work in the UK with prior UK project experience
Engineers with relevant drainage or infrastructure design experience who may not meet every requirement are still encouraged to apply.

Remuneration & Benefits

Competitive salary between £35,000 - £45,000 depending on experience
Hybrid working with flexible hours
Minimum 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, plus your birthday off
Option to purchase additional leave
Annual discretionary bonus
Private medical insurance
Contributory pension scheme (up to 5%)
Cycle to work scheme
Relaxed and supportive office environment
