March/April Vacancy – Learning Support Assistant
SEN Specialist Provision (Autism & Complex Needs) – Ages 11-16

A specialist SEN provision in the Basingstoke area, similar in approach to settings such as Dove House School, is seeking committed, patient, and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to join its dedicated team for a March/April start.

This setting supports pupils aged 11-16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), severe and moderate learning difficulties, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), sensory processing differences, and associated complex needs. Many pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require highly personalised support.

The provision offers a structured, nurturing, and communication-focused environment, using visual supports, sensory strategies, and consistent routines to enable pupils to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide in-class and 1:1 support for pupils with autism and complex learning needs

  • Support the development of communication skills, including use of visual timetables, PECS, or AAC systems

  • Assist pupils with sensory regulation and engagement in structured learning activities

  • Adapt learning tasks to meet individual needs and learning styles

  • Support pupils with personal care where required

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SEN staff, and external professionals

  • Contribute to a calm, safe, and highly supportive learning environment

This role is particularly suited to candidates who:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with autism, learning disabilities, or complex needs

  • Understand the importance of structure, routine, and visual communication strategies

  • Are patient, nurturing, and attentive to sensory and communication differences

  • Can remain calm and consistent when supporting dysregulation or anxiety

  • Demonstrate reliability, empathy, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Applicants with transferable experience from special schools, early years settings, care, residential support, therapy support roles, or disability services are encouraged to apply. Full training and ongoing professional development will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
