Maths Teacher – Secondary SEMH Setting

A specialist secondary setting is seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to join its team, working with young people aged 11–16 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The pupils

Students in this setting often have a history of disrupted education and may present with challenging behaviour, difficulties with emotional regulation, and additional needs linked to trauma, anxiety, ADHD or autism. Class sizes are small, and pupils require high levels of structure, consistency and positive relationships to engage successfully with learning.

The role

The successful candidate will deliver Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting the curriculum to meet individual needs and learning styles. The role involves:

  • Planning and teaching engaging Maths lessons tailored to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Managing and responding calmly to challenging behaviour using restorative and trauma‑informed approaches
  • Building strong, trusting relationships to support both academic progress and personal development
  • Working closely with support staff, therapists and senior leaders to implement individual support plans
  • Monitoring progress and contributing to reviews and assessments
Working pattern and pay
  • Monday to Friday, full-time
  • Paid to scale, in line with teacher pay and conditions

This role would suit a Maths Teacher who is patient, reflective and committed to making a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable young people. Experience in SEMH or alternative provision is desirable, but not essential for the right candidate with the appropriate mindset and commitment.
