Cardiology Research Fellow

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust.

There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

We are looking for a Clinical Research Fellow to join us on a 24-month fixed term contract, to participate in a wide range of cardiology research activity within the cardiac department at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital and the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre.

• Work towards MD / PhD thesis submission within a 2 / 3 year period of research
• Act as interventional fellow responsible for the STEMI clinical trial programme or the OHCA registry and clinical programme as well as all other interventional cardiology studies
• Active participation (recruitment, procedure, data collection) in research studies of the department
• Produce academic papers and abstracts
• Provide and receive information regarding current clinical trials, which contain highly complex, sensitive or contentious data and information
• Provide teaching and education of current trials and act as a resource to personnel and staff involved with clinical trials
• Attend local, regional and national meetings related to specific trials and make representations to such meetings as necessary according to the needs of the service

• Essential criteria
• Medically qualified, MBBS or equivalent
• Full MRCP or equivalent (and working towards specialist training in Cardiology)
• ALS
• Desirable criteria
• Intercalated BSc

• Essential criteria
• Understanding of the need and terms of research governance; knowledge of the Data Protection Act
• Desirable criteria
• Experience in Subspecialty Cardiology (Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathies, Electrophysiology, Cardiac Devices) Experience with statistical packages
