The Position

The Pharma Technical Operations (PT) Global MSAT & Engineering (PTT) group takes bold steps to modernize technical operations to enable Roche to deliver medicines for patients more quickly, efficiently, and reliably. PTT shapes and accelerates technology innovation and product lifecycle management for tomorrow, while standardizing and driving operational excellence in PT today.

The PTT Materials Science Technical Specialist/Expert provides technical leadership for material topics, implementing material-driven solutions across PT manufacturing and distribution networks that are aligned with internal and external regulations. Leveraging manufacturing expertise, the Technical Expert applies material science and data-driven knowledge to solve complex problems and navigate the technical material lifecycle to ensure a robust supply chain.

The Opportunity
  • Utilizes material science expertise and product technical knowledge to support the product portfolio and manufacturing network, ensuring continuity and compliance.
  • Drives fit-for-purpose material solutions for manufacturing sites using working knowledge of drug substance, drug product, and small molecule processes.
  • Assesses manufacturing process performance at a network level to lead strategic improvements in robustness, speed, efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
  • Identifies and resolves complex portfolio risks by leading materials-focused roadmaps, supply task forces, quality improvement projects, and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).
  • Leads cross-functional teams to ensure network material standardization and develops or improves material-related business processes.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the design and implementation of single-use technologies, including technical drawings and specifications.
  • Acts as the technical lead for external stakeholders and suppliers, including conducting technical visits and audits to ensure material quality.
Who You Are
  • Holds a BS/MS/PhD in Science or Engineering with at least 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or medical device industry.
  • Possesses deep expertise in raw materials, including material science and critical attribute assessments, specifically within drug product manufacturing.
  • Displays a strong background in Small Molecule processes and a solid understanding of ICH guidelines, GMP operations, and health authority regulations.
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills and the ability to interpret Roche Quality standards through CAPA, Change Management, and risk assessment tools.
  • Maintains a strong quality mindset with meticulous attention to detail, service excellence, and a willingness to travel up to 10%.
