Installation Technician, Electrician/ Electrician Installation
Performs intermediate technical work in the installation, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground high/low voltage distribution and transmission lines. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Responsibilities- Installs, constructs, maintains and repairs the electrical distribution and transmission system; works on high and low voltage lines.
- Uses hand and power tools; digs holes by hand for pole installation; climbs ladders, poles, embankments and towers; works at heights above 35 feet on poles and in aerial lifts; positions grounds; works with live circuits; works in trenches, manholes and confined spaces.
- Sets and installs underground structures, locates, pulls, removes, splices or terminates cables.
- Reviews job work requirements and provides input regarding work for the day.
- Mentors Apprentice Line workers in construction and maintenance of electric facilities.
- Lifts, pulls and carries insulators, cross‑arms, equipment, tools, grounds, dampers and other materials to and from job sites.
- Climbs poles using boot hooks or aerial lift.
- Tests, frames; sets and/or anchors poles; strings electric power lines and installs cross‑arms.
- Serves as a crew leader if assigned.
- Constructs, replaces and repairs arresters, voltage regulators, lights, transformers, capacitors, switches, breakers, cross‑arms, T‑brackets, etc.
- Installs fiber optic cable; pulls fiber optic cable; splices cable; installs connectors; prepares fiber optic cable for splicing and connecting.
- Assists with a variety of emergency problems, stand‑by and trouble calls; rotates schedule callout, alternate hours & overtime as necessary.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Takes knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission systems.
- Understands occupational hazards connected with electrical transmission and distribution duties and the safety precautions required.
- Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.
- Ability to perform manual work and maintain physical stamina to withstand working under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to climb poles.
- Ability to perform pole top, bucket and confined space rescue.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in both oral and written form.
- Ability to effectively instruct subordinates.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
- Good problem solving skills, including the ability to detect, diagnose and correct issues with electric equipment and circuits.
- Success in working independently or as a member of a team.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with department peers, supervisors, and the management team.
- Promotes and maintains high morale and enthusiasm for the job.
- Positively engages with customers, business partners and the public effectively and courteously.
- Must be able to lift and move materials of up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn how to operate heavy equipment such as a backhoe, forklift, trencher, etc.
Graduation from high school; one (1) year of experience in journey level work involving construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution systems; successful completion of a four‑year registered Lineman Apprentice Training Program; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses, Certifications, andSpecial Requirements
- Possession of a Class B CDL license valid in the State of Florida.
- Current CPR, basic first aid, and blood‑borne pathogens training.
- Must be able to respond to after‑hour call outs within 60 minutes.
