The RN Director of Med Surg/Telemetry is a key clinical leader responsible for directing and coordinating nursing operations, patient care delivery, and staff management across assigned inpatient medical-surgical and telemetry units. This role partners closely with the CNO to ensure safe, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care, while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, staff engagement, and continuous improvement. The RN Director holds 24/7 accountability for departmental operations, including patient satisfaction, staff development, regulatory compliance, and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities- Provide operational and clinical leadership for Med Surg and Telemetry units, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and performance standards.
- Develop and implement policies and best practices for efficient workflow and patient-centered care.
- Support CNO in strategic planning, staffing, budgeting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission, and CMS regulations.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professional development among nursing staff.
- Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and executive leadership to achieve clinical and operational goals.
- Lead initiatives to improve patient outcomes, HCAHPS scores, and nurse retention.
- Oversee recruitment, training, competency evaluation, and performance management for nursing staff.
- Promote evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school AND a Bachelor's in a healthcare-related field OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master's in Healthcare Administration or related field.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required within 3 months of hire.
- Minimum 2 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in a hospital environment (Manager or Director level).
- Proven success managing Med Surg or Telemetry units in acute care settings.
- Strong understanding of hospital operations, staffing models, and budget management.
