Village of Bartlett, Civil Engineer

The Village of Bartlett, IL (population 42,000), is a progressive, growing community located 35 miles west of downtown Chicago in Cook, DuPage and Kane Counties. The Public Works Department has an opening for a full-time Civil Engineer.

This position performs field and office work related to the planning, technical investigation, and inspection of public works and civil engineering projects. Duties include preparing requests for proposals, managing consultants, developing construction plans, coordinating internal and external reviews, maintaining project records, and ensuring projects are completed consistent with village code, contract specifications, and state and federal regulations. Other responsibilities include working with residents to address and resolve concerns.

This position reviews grading, utility, right of way, fence, flood plain, driveway permit applications and ensures compliance with various NPDES and MS4 permit requirements.

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or related field, municipal/construction experience preferred. Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) certification is desirable. The candidate must possess strong written and oral communication skills and listening skills. Candidates should be customer-focused and have superb interpersonal skills. This position requires visits to active construction sites during all seasons of the year. Must possess a valid Class “D” Driver’s License.
