Day in the Life

The Medical Assistant provides superior patient care and performs administrative and delegated clinical tasks that support patients in a clinic-based environment as part of a care team led by a physician and/or advanced practice provider.

  • Enter, maintain, and report all medical history, medical coding, and file claims using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Support patient visits: greet patients, escort them to the exam room, take vital signs, and gather applicable medical information for the treatment plan.
  • Sterilize and prepare instruments; ensure exam rooms are disinfected, orderly, and ready for patients; provide privacy, comfort, safety and hygiene.
  • Assist in inventory management and stocking supplies, instruments and equipment for all exam rooms.
  • Maintain inventory paperwork and review orders for completeness.
  • Request referrals and insurance authorizations; pass along patient information for prescriptions, x-rays or lab requisitions to pharmacies, hospitals and labs.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • BLS certification required within 14 days of start.
Preferred

Job Requirements
  • Associate’s degree.
  • Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program or have three years of MA experience.
  • Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
