Description:

The Deputy Headteacher plays a vital role in the leadership and day‑to‑day management of the school, working closely with the Headteacher to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and pastoral care.

Key duties include supporting the development and delivery of the school’s vision and strategic direction, leading on curriculum implementation and assessment, and overseeing staff development through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

The Deputy Headteacher also helps to maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture by monitoring pupil progress, coordinating behaviour and safeguarding procedures, and building strong relationships with families and the wider community.

In the absence of the Headteacher, they take full responsibility for the effective running of the school.

About you You will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong track record of successful primary teaching.
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) as required for all teaching staff in Wales.
  • Enhanced DBS Check, with a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Proven experience of effective school leadership and management, with the ability to inspire and support staff.
  • Strong knowledge of the Curriculum for Wales, assessment, and strategies for raising attainment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead on safeguarding, inclusion, and behaviour with confidence and integrity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Ability to think strategically, manage change effectively, and contribute to whole school improvement.
  • High levels of professionalism, resilience, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
