Vehicle Workshop Technician

Salary: up to £30,000 per year
Are you a skilled technician who takes pride in keeping vehicles roadworthy, safe, and operating at their best? We’re looking for a hands-on, reliable Vehicle Workshop Technician to join our team in a role that offers consistent weekday hours with early finishes — leaving your afternoons free.
This is a varied and practical role that requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a proactive approach. You’ll play a key part in maintaining our fleet, ensuring vehicles are safe, compliant, and ready for the road.
Some of the duties:
* Organise and plan daily work activity in consultation with departmental customers, workshop colleagues and external providers (where appropriate).
* Preparing tractor units both for putting into service, for presentation to third-party maintenance providers and preparing vehicles for auction / disposal.
* Ensure that HGV vehicles, trailers and plant are serviced, maintained and repaired to the specified standards and within planned schedules.
* Assist with on-site vehicle breakdowns and on road breakdowns (locally)
* Able to assess spare parts requirements and raise orders accordingly.
* To carry out all tasks in accordance with the company health & safety policy.
* Maintain accurate records of services performed and parts used for each vehicle.
* Ensure site housekeeping standards are maintained within your designated work area.
To be considered for this role you must have the following:
* NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance and Repair of Heavy Vehicles.
* Class 1 UK Driving Licence with up-to-date CPC and DIGI card.
* Experience of carrying out HGV and trailer inspections including brake reline and repairs all.
* Solid experience of preparing vehicles and trailers for MOT and service, caring out brake tests.
* Experience of defect reporting, repairing, and signing off.
* A good understanding of the ‘DVSA Guide to maintaining roadworthiness’ and aware of how to stay up to date with all the relevant legislation, codes of practice, specifications and guidance to ensure the Company remains legally compliant and the requirements of our Company’s Earned Recognition Accreditation are met.
* Good IT skills.
* Ability to plan your work and whilst working closely with Logistics Manager and Dispatch Manager and their respective departments.
* Knowledge of EU tachograph rules.
* Candidates in possession of a Vehicle Diagnostic Technician qualification and MIG welding capability will be favourably looked on.
* Knowledge of trailer breaking fault diagnostics and repair + using test equipment
