We are a busy, progressive 13-doctor veterinary hospital with a long-standing reputation for excellence in Barrie and beyond. Our team is deeply involved in community initiatives including the Barrie Food Bank, rescue partnerships, and work with The Global Alliance for Animals and People in Northern Ontario.

We are AAHA accredited and CVO accredited
, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards of patient care, client service, and teamwork.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment where every day brings something new to learn — and, of course, something fluffy to cuddle.

The Role

You will:

  • Assist with patient care and treatments
  • Monitor hospitalized and post-surgical patients
  • Safely restrain animals for procedures (blood draws, nail trims, exams)
  • Assist with diagnostics (radiographs, lab samples, bloodwork)
  • Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Clean and disinfect kennels and treatment areas
  • Administer medications under veterinarian/RVT supervision
  • Provide comfort and care to patients

What We’re Looking For

  • A motivated self-starter who can multitask and works well in a team
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys working with animals, including those who are stressed, ill, or in pain, using safe handling principles
  • Veterinary Assistant College Certificate preferred (but not required)
  • 1+ year of experience preferred (but not required — we will train the right person)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced hospital environment

Why Allandale?

You will be joining a team of highly devoted animal advocates who care deeply about their patients, their clients, their community, and each other. This is a place where you can learn, grow, and feel proud of the work you do every day. We offer a generous benefits package, RRSP contributions, a Wellness Allowance and uniforms.

At NVA Canada diversity and inclusion are an important part of our everyday reality. We are committed to fostering an open and inclusive environment where everyone belongs, our people feel comfortable and confident to be themselves and reach their full potential regardless of age, race, national or ethnic origin, gender identity or expression, marital and family status, religion or other belief, culture, sexual orientation, or disability.
