REGISTERED NURSE, RADIATION ONCOLOGY
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation. The Radiation Oncology RN assesses, plans, coordinates and manages care of Radiation Oncology patients and families in conjunction with an interdisciplinary team and according to departmental routines.
Responsibilities- Provide evidence-based nursing care to Radiation Oncology patients and families in collaboration with an interprofessional team.
- Assess, plan, coordinate, and manage patient care according to departmental routines and standards.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service.
- Maintain high standards of patient care with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Education:
- Current RN certification/registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- BCLS Certificate current within one year
- Post-diploma Education in Radiation Oncology Nursing (RN) Course
- Post-diploma Education in Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course
- Current CNA Certification in Oncology (asset)
- Post-Diploma Education in Physical Assessment (asset)
- Post-Diploma Education in Palliative Nursing (RN) (asset)
- CAN O/ONS membership (preferred)
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Oncology inpatient or ambulatory care setting
- 1-year progressive acute care nursing experience within the past 6 months (asset)
- Sound knowledge of nursing process and professional responsibilities
- Ability to work independently within scope of practice
- Adult teaching experience (preferred)
- Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) experience
- Wound Care experience (asset)
- Palliative care nursing experience (asset)
- Computer literacy in Meditech Expanse, ARIA MO/RO
- Commitment to professional growth and development
- Commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service
- Interest in continuing professional development
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Critical thinking to handle demanding situations and fluctuating workloads
- Maintains a high standard of patient care
- Ability to collaborate with other care team members to foster an interprofessional model of care
- Adaptable to program needs, including inpatient unit and outpatient clinics
