In the vacant position as Senior Planner, you will work to advance planning and development applications in the Town and will be directly involved in the process of advancing various complex applications that support sustainable development principles and align development outcomes with the Town’s Official Plan.
Working in a cross-functional and forward-thinking team environment, you will be responsible for:
Reviewing, evaluating, and processing complex planning applications such as Official Plan/Zoning By-law Amendments, Site Plans, and Plans of Subdivisions and Condominiums, ranging from mixed use apartments to shoreline redevelopment, and from residential and industrial subdivisions to site plan development of employment lands, and even resort development (e.g. Friday Harbour).Supporting the day-to-day operations of the Planning service areas and providing information and advice to staff, Council, stakeholders and the public.Providing planning comments on Community Planning Permits, Site Plans, Heritage and Committee of Adjustment applications.Conducting research and analysis and preparing reports and special studies on various planning related initiatives and matters.Representing the Municipality, when required at tribunals and at hearings on court applications, such as the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT).Job Requirements
The preferred candidate holds:
A degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Environmental Studies, or related discipline.Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in planning, preferably in a municipal setting.Full membership of the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.A valid Class “G” driver’s license in good standing is required as is a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings or other events, if necessary.Closing date is March 17, 2026
