Controller

An established and growing organization in the media and digital publishing space is seeking a Controller to join its leadership team. With continued expansion across multiple regions and through strategic acquisitions, the company requires a strong operational finance leader who can balance day-to-day execution with process improvement.
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will take ownership of the accounting function, lead a small team, and ensure financial integrity across a multi-entity, multi-currency structure.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Operational Accounting Leadership
Own the full-cycle accounting process including payables, receivables, payroll, and general ledger
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Produce consolidated financial reporting across Canadian, U.S., and U.K. entities
Oversee intercompany activity and foreign exchange accuracy
Financial Reporting & Governance
Ensure financial reporting complies with Canadian GAAP and applicable international standards
Partner with the CFO to deliver reporting and analysis to senior leadership and the board
Coordinate external audits and support cross-border tax compliance
Assist with corporate documentation and contract review from a financial perspective
Systems & Data Integrity
Oversee the effective use and optimization of ERP systems (Net Suite preferred)
Ensure alignment and reconciliation of financial data across integrated systems
Work cross-functionally with IT and other departments to enhance reporting and automation
Growth & Integration
Support financial onboarding of acquired businesses
Align newly acquired entities with existing reporting structures and controls
Team Management & Process Improvement
Lead, coach, and develop an accounting team (6–7 staff; 2 direct reports)
Establish clear processes, strengthen internal controls, and improve workflow efficiency
Contribute to enterprise risk management initiatives
What We’re Looking For
Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance
CPA designation considered an asset
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership
Experience in multi-entity and multi-currency environments
Strong ERP background (Net Suite highly desirable)
Experience in system implementations or integrations
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
A hands-on approach with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically
This position is based on-site in Midland, Ontario and requires candidates to be within commuting distance.
