The Opportunity
This is a senior-level in-house Project Manager role based in Barrie, Ontario
, responsible for leading large, technically complex automation projects from early planning through final commissioning. These are high-visibility, multi-million-dollar initiatives that require strong commercial awareness, technical credibility, and the ability to bring diverse teams together around shared outcomes.
Reporting into senior project leadership, the successful candidate will act as the central point of coordination between engineering, manufacturing, skilled trades, procurement, customers, and executive stakeholders.
Position Description
The Project Manager will own the full project lifecycle, ensuring scope, schedule, cost, and quality expectations are met or exceeded.
Key areas of responsibility include:
End-to-end leadership of automation projects, from initiation and detailed planning through build, installation coordination, and commissioningFinancial stewardship of assigned projects, including forecasting, cost control, and regular performance reportingActing as the primary point of contact for customers, leading progress reviews, updates, and issue resolutionDevelopment and management of project schedules, milestones, and resource plansClose collaboration with engineering, shop floor, automation, procurement, and operations teams to ensure alignment and executionProactive identification and escalation of risks, constraints, and scope changesOversight of project documentation including commercial records, correspondence, schedules, and requisitionsContribution to quotation development using internal costing and estimating toolsEnsuring safety standards, housekeeping expectations, and company policies are upheld at all timesTravel is minimal
, typically limited to occasional on-site check-ins, customer meetings tied to key milestones, or monitoring progress during installation or commissioning.
Experience
Senior-level project management experience within automation, industrial machinery, manufacturing systems, or engineered-to-order environmentsProven track record managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and competing prioritiesComfortable balancing technical, commercial, and customer considerations in real timeExperience operating in deadline-driven environments where priorities can shiftQualifications
University degree in engineering, technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experienceProfessional Engineer or Project Management Professional designation considered a strong assetAdvanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly ExcelStrong technical foundation with the ability to engage credibly with engineers, trades, and customersExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalHighly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilityAble to work independently while also motivating cross-functional teamsAdaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable navigating changeEducation
University degree in engineering, technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experienceProfessional Engineer or Project Management Professional designation considered a strong asset
