Engineering Inspector Co‑op Student (8 Months)
Join the City of Barrie Infrastructure Department as an Engineering Inspector co‑op student to assist in inspections of municipal infrastructure projects. This temporary, full‑time position runs for up to 8 months and is union‑represented.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the inspection of municipal infrastructure installations, including concrete and asphalt maintenance, water mains, sewers, roads, and other municipal infrastructure to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Maintain records documenting quality‑control issues and quantity measurements.
- Gather information and prepare daily reports.
- Communicate with contractors, residents, and businesses.
- Distribute notices and work independently or as part of a team.
- Currently enrolled in or a student of a recognised university or college in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Technician program.
- Completed at least one full year of post‑secondary education, preferably in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Enrolled in a recognised co‑op program.
- Good organisational, communication, and public‑relations skills.
- Basic to intermediate skills in Autodesk (AutoCAD), GIS (Arc Map), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic understanding of municipal infrastructure, including sewers and roads.
- Basic engineering survey, drafting, and computing skills.
- Knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 is an asset.
- Dependable, reliable, and able to work with little supervision; willing to work outside on construction sites daily.
- Appropriate CSA‑approved safety boots in good condition.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence (preferred) with reliable vehicle; travel reimbursement provided.
- Satisfactory criminal record check.
- May — December 2026 (≈ 8 months).
- City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario.
- 40 hours per week, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, with lunch and breaks.
- $17.60 – $22.05 per hour.
