Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm (incl. 30 min lunch)

Wage: $22.05 per hour

About the Department

The Operations Department has three branches:
Administration, Parks and Forestry Operations, and Roads, Fleet and Technical Operations. Key responsibilities include operation and maintenance of city public works infrastructure and systems including roadways, rail, winter maintenance, parks, green spaces, forestry, and fleet vehicles/equipment.

Stormwater Operations Description

The Stormwater Operations component is responsible for the City’s Consolidated Linear Environmental Compliance Approval (CLI‑ECA), associated inspections, and compliance activities covering stormwater infrastructure including stormwater management facilities, pipes, catch basins, manufactured treatment devices, Low Impact Development, creeks, ditches, and associated water‑quality monitoring. Other duties include investigating complaints and responding to public concerns, work order and records management, and assisting Roads Operations with winter control and rail activity preparations.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with inspections, investigations, and evaluations of stormwater, roads, and drainage infrastructure.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with Environmental Compliance Approvals and permits (data collection, sampling, reporting).
  • Assist with water quality monitoring and infrastructure inspections per CLI‑ECA.
  • Assist in winter material usage tracking and complete Environment Canada Winter Material Usage Report.
  • Assist in winter equipment calibration and serve as a field liaison coordinating contractor work.
  • Act as field coordinator for assigned road and stormwater contracts to ensure project deliverables.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate sampling equipment.
  • Compile and maintain records of tests, inspections, and monitoring results.
  • Prepare reports and accurately document activities.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints related to municipal services.
  • Enter field data into Cityworks (work order system).
  • Conduct stormwater management pond and watercourse inspections per CLI‑ECA.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or is a student in a recognized college or university Co‑op program, preferably in Environmental Technology/Science or related field, and returning to full‑time studies.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Basic knowledge of construction activities related to stormwater management.
  • Demonstrated field and water‑quality sampling knowledge and experience.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, AutoCAD.
  • Dependable, reliable, able to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
