2026 Summer School Teaching Position – Land‑Based Learning (Exploring Canadian Geography)Course Code: CGC1W
Title: Exploring Canadian Geography
Location: Christian Island Elementary School (CIES) – in collaboration with Beausoleil First Nation and Rama First Nation. The program incorporates traditional Indigenous Knowledge from local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Holders and Sharers.
Date: July 2 – July 29, 2026 (Monday–Thursday 9:00 am–2:00 pm in‑person; Fridays online/asynchronous).
Reporting To: Principal of the Grade 8 Reach‑Ahead Program – Land‑Based CGC1W.
Role
Summary:
Teachers will deliver instruction, provide daily student support, conduct record keeping, and produce final reports for their assigned course.
- Ability to adapt learning to a land‑based, experiential environment.
- Knowledge of e‑learning (e.g., D2L) for courses that include an online component.
- Deep understanding of learning pedagogy and how it relates to Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being.
- Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of decolonising and indigenising the curriculum.
- Ability to integrate Indigenous history, culture, traditions and ways of knowing into the geography curriculum, fostering cultural competence.
- Understanding of an integrated approach to curriculum planning and delivery.
- Knowledge of learning strategies, program modifications and teaching methodologies that support students with special needs in understanding Indigenous culture and practices.
- Effective collaboration and teamwork with colleagues and local Indigenous communities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum, Growing Success, and the School Effectiveness Framework.
- Work in outdoor environments with Indigenous graduation coaches, local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Holders and Sharers, and community members.
- Implement effective assessment practices (descriptive feedback, conversational, observational, and product‑based).
- Enhance curriculum content with differentiated instructional strategies to improve engagement and foster deeper learning.
- Provide daily supervision of students in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Applicants must submit a resume detailing education, experience, and qualifications; documentation confirming certifications; and a cover letter addressed to Alison Golding, Interim Principal of Indigenous Education. All application fees are covered by the Simcoe County District School Board.
To be considered, applicants need: (1) Intermediate or senior qualifications in Geography; (2) Experience or AQ with First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities preferred; and (3) Ability to demonstrate the competencies listed above.
