The Simcoe County District School Board is accepting
applications for the following position:
2026 Summer School Teaching Position
- Land-Based Learning CGC1W
(Exploring Canadian Geography)
( Christian Island Location )
In collaboration with Beausoleil First Nation and Rama First
Nation, the following teaching opportunities are based on the land and
incorporate traditional Indigenous Knowledge from local Elders and Knowledge
Keepers, Holders and Sharers.
Reporting to the principal of Grade 8 Reach-Ahead
Program-Land Based CGC1W, the teachers will be responsible for the
instructional delivery and daily student support for the duration of the
program. Teachers will be working with the Indigenous Education Team and
community to support the program for assigned location. Teachers are
responsible for record keeping and final reporting for their assigned course.
Intermediate/senior qualifications required in the subject
area of geography.
First Nation, Métis and Inuit AQ or experience working with
Indigenous communities preferred.

Competencies:
Successful applicants for the summer credit teacher position
will demonstrate evidence of:
ability to adapt learning to a land based, experiential environment;
knowledge of elearning as some courses may include an online component (D2L) in addition to in-person teaching;
a deep understanding of learning pedagogy and how it relates to Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being;
demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of Decolonizing and Indigenizing the curriculum;
ability to provide program support for integrating Indigenous history, culture, traditions and Ways of Knowing into the geography curriculum, with an understanding of how students develop cultural competence related to Indigenous education;
understanding of an integrated approach to curriculum planning and delivery;
understanding of learning strategies, program modifications and teaching methodologies which support students with special needs to make connections and understand Indigenous culture and practices;
collaboration and teamwork with colleagues and local Indigenous communities
excellent oral and written communication skills; and,
thorough knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum, Growing Success, and the School Effectiveness Framework.
Major Responsibilities for Teachers:
ability to work in an outdoor environment, with Indigenous graduation coach, local Elders and Knowledge Keepers, Holders and Sharers and community members;
implement effective assessment practices (e.g., descriptive feedback, a blend of conversation, observation and product);
enhance curriculum-based content to integrate differentiated instructional strategies designed to improve student engagement and foster deeper learning; and,
daily supervision of students in both indoor and outdoor environments.
All Teaching positions will be available only if the minimum registrations numbers are attained.
Please note that due to
late registrations, hiring can continue right up to the first few operating
days of school.
