More detail about the role

Are you a specialist dietitian wanting to develop skills within Paediatrics? Do you aspire to improve health, quality of life and care experience for children and their families? Join the Royal Devon as a full or part time band 6 paediatric dietitian. This is a varied general role, therefore depending on experience it could cover a combination of nutritional support, selective eating/ARFID, cardiac, diabetes, gastro or weight management.

This would be an outpatient role with some inpatient work.

If you’re looking for a role where you can be innovative and creative, and get to put your stamp on the service, this is the post for you. You’ll be supported to develop group education services, specialise in areas of interest, create new clinics or bring fresh ways of working.

You would be part of our supportive and friendly dietetic team based at North Devon District Hospital of the Royal Devon University Healthcare Trust. The paediatric dietetics team covers children’s inpatient ward, special care baby unit and outpatients. We provide face to face, telephone and video support to families.

We believe in the importance of supporting the next generation of dietitians and we play a key role in student placements from the University of Plymouth. In fact, our dietetic student lead has won an award for her work on the student experience here at North Devon. Following their placements, many of our students choose to stay on to work in the department.

Why join the paediatrics dietetics team?

We're a small, friendly and supportive team. We collaborate on the wards as part of a big team that includes experts from different fields. We work closely and share an office with the adult dietetics team based at our northern services. We meet weekly (virtual) with our larger paediatric team in our eastern services to join forces on CPD, complex case discussions, safeguarding, service developments etc.

This gives us the best of both worlds - a cosy team feel and the strength and knowledge of a larger group.

We value innovation across our therapies services. We've introduced various new ideas and created different roles in recent years, such as introducing a Research and Innovation Lead, and adopting new techniques.

Supporting you

For newcomers at the Royal Devon, you'll have the opportunity to join our buddy scheme, and we’ll also provide you with a tailored induction and local insights to help you settle into your new role. You’ll enjoy regular 1-2-1s, team catch-ups, mentoring and appraisals. Plus, our occupational health team have a full and varied wellbeing programme available.

Career development and progression

Training and development opportunities are in high supply here, whether you are interested in clinical or leadership development, courses, secondments or placements. We’ll support you in finding the best way to grow. As an example of how far your career can take you, we have recently introduced consultant Allied Health Professional (AHP’s) roles to physiotherapy, First Contact Practitioners in primary care settings, and Clinical Educator posts across some specialities.
