Working in a Therapy Support Worker role is an ideal starting point for a career at Royal Devon University Healthcare Trust and the NHS.

Guided by senior members of the Therapy Team you’ll progress along your career pathway with the help of our learning and development opportunities. Within the Therapy department we nurture a workforce of home‑grown talent and are proud of our many staff who began their careers in Therapy Support Worker roles and have progressed into other more specialist or registrant roles.

The post is based in the Neuro Rehab Service. The Team work across in patient, community (Integrated Community Stroke and Neuro Rehab Service) and out‑patient settings to provide specialist, evidence based Neuro Rehab to patients following stroke or other Neurological diagnosis. This post is based on the inpatient stroke and neuro ward at North Devon District Hospital.

The in‑patient team are an integrated physiotherapy and occupational therapy team working on a 24 bedded ward at North Devon Hospital (Staples Ward). They work closely with the broader MDT including the Nursing staff, Doctors, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and Psychologists. The team is specialist in providing acute therapy post stroke and neurological diagnosis. They assess patients physical and cognitive abilities as well as functional ability with things like walking, washing and dressing and activities in the kitchen.

They consider the patients previous abilities, home and lifestyle to plan goals and formulate a treatment plan. The therapists, alongside the support worker team will support intensive rehab which includes activity in the ward therapy gym, utilising specialist rehab equipment and facilitating rehab groups and to support patients recovery. The team work closely with patients and families to support them with what has happened and plan for the future.
