More detail about the role

The Neuro rehab team work across in-patient, community (Integrated Community Stroke and Neuro service) and outpatient settings to provide specialist, evidence-based Neuro rehab to patients following stroke or other neurological diagnosis. You will work with an innovative and dynamic team who continuously review models of delivery to provide services that optimise rehab opportunities for our patients. You will have the opportunity to develop expertise in delivering interventions such as treadmill training, FES and spasticity management, as well as be involved in regional and local service improvement projects focussed on increasing the intensity of rehabilitation for our patients.

The current vacancy will be based within the Integrated Community Stroke and Neuro Service and provides an opportunity for a part time substantive contract. The team support patients after a stroke or other new Neurological diagnosis enabling their care to be transferred from an inpatient environment to a community setting. They enable people to continue to receive high quality, specialist and patient focussed rehabilitation in their home environment.

The team consists of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychology and rehab support workers. They also work closely alongside short-term services and the local health and social care teams, as well as third sector organisations such as the Stroke Association, to ensure that models of rehabilitation are integrated and patient focussed.

The Neurorehab service has a proven track record in development of our staff and opportunities for career development. We have number of senior staff trained to MSc level, and have embedded both advanced clinical practice and consultant AHP roles within the team. The Therapy team is at the forefront of innovation and development, in both our services and our people. Within this post you can expect to be invested in, supported and given the tools you need to succeed in your role and progress in your career.

We are a friendly and dedicated team. By joining the department, you will be joining a group of likeminded professionals who aim to rehabilitate patients, support those living with long term conditions and promote health, well-being and independence.

Innovation is central to therapies at the Royal Devon, demonstrated by the implementation of several new initiatives and the development of non-traditional roles in recent years including a Research and Innovation Lead. We are not afraid of adopting new techniques, as shown by the introduction of our ultrasound-guided injection therapy in Orthopaedic and Neurology pathways.
