The post is based at the North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple. The post would be 10 PAs with the potential for additional PAs to be added to the job plan, which would be negotiated with the successful applicant.

The post has arisen due to the previous IR moving abroad who built a flourishing service during his time in post. There is professional support from the IR team in our sister hospital in Exeter where four IRs are based.

The IR service includes provision of a wide range of vascular and non-vascular interventions with the scope for the successful candidate to build upon the service already in place and expand into whatever areas of interest they hold. We have a strong team of nurses and radiographers and are fortunate in maintaining excellent relationships with our clinical colleagues in the referral specialities here in North Devon.

We have excellent facilities with centralisation of our second fluoroscopy suite next to patient recovery planned as part of a wider imaging expansion including the acquisition of two new MRI scanners in the next 2-4 years. Subspecialist IR interests, general and subspecialty radiology reporting can all be included in the job-plan by mutual agreement.

Successful applicants will participate in the cross-site interventional on-call rota, currently at a 1 in 8 frequency. The appointee will not be expected to take part in the general radiology on-call rota.

Work life balance is crucial and you will be joining a department that puts this philosophy front and centre. We are based in Devon in the South West of England; a county renowned for its natural beauty, schools and quality of life.

Applicants must have completed specialist training in clinical radiology and either sub-special IR training, an IR fellowship or have significant ongoing IR experience in a consultant post or equivalent prior to taking up the appointment.
