As a Production Team Leader you will be leading a team of operatives producing Milled Dispersions and Formulated Solutions products in accordance with our standard operating procedures on a lower tier COMAH registered Chemical Manufacturing Plant.

Responsible for managing, mentoring, and developing operations staff to ensure daily targets are achieved, in line with key performance indicators.

Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will be expected to work autonomously and therefore will be responsible for day‑to‑day operations, carrying out any necessary fault diagnosis, escalating and resolving issues as required.

You will lead and manage a self‑directed operating team coordinating labour and product priorities to achieve the production plan. Liaising with the Production management, Supply chain and Quality and collaborate with them regarding production matters and attainment.

Your role will be to operate in both areas of the manufacturing site (FS/MD) as and when required to meet production demands, overlapping duties/responsibilities with the technical and process operators, assisting with plant operations where required.

In the event of any emergency situation, you will become the incident controller – duties include implementing emergency procedures, accounting for all staff on the plant at the time, providing information to emergency service personnel and to provide assistance as requested in responding to the incident.

You will comply and ensure your team comply with operating procedures including ISO
9001/14001, COMAH & IPPC, process instructions, Engineering, and QHSE procedures, including issuing of permits and contractor management. You will be required to conduct sampling and in process analysis to ensure that all products meet the required manufacturing specifications, if required fault diagnosis and rectification may be required.

You will lead and manage your team, ensuring they are trained to the required standard.

You will work closely with technical support and management in executing investigative or experimental programmes and in implementing change projects such as new product introduction. You will lead continuous improvement project teams (5S / Structured Problem Solving / HPI) with the aim of improving QHSES standards, and process efficiencies, the site is Known Consignor accredited and you will be required to be trained to module 10.

What We're Looking For:

The following accountabilities are identified for the role of Production Team Leader

  • Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with the health, safety, environmental and quality required
  • Manage production weekly production & short‑term scheduling to maximise on‑time deliveries keeping inventory on target
  • Ensure compliance with Quality, ISO Environmental and continuous improvement systems for operations
  • Coaching the Production Operators / technical operators so that they are sufficiently trained, motivated, and developed to meet production goals
  • Execute production strategies and plan for improved technologies to ensure continuous improvement in operational productivity
Skills That Make a Difference:
  • Previous experience of leading and developing a team
  • GCSE or equivalent in Math’s, English and Chemistry or equivalent vocational qualification coupled with minimum 5 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing industry
  • Use of computer systems (SAP, MS Office) and numeracy / literacy skills (written and verbal communication skills)
  • Lean Principles – Underpinning knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Techniques
  • Evaluation of plant data and identification of corrective action through structured problem solving
  • QHSE awareness – Compliance with safe systems of work, knowledge of standards
  • Maintenance skills to ensure completion of engineering tasks as and when required
  • Forklift truck operation (desired)
