Job Summary
Are you looking for a change and/or a new challenge? An opportunity has arisen for an innovative, dynamic, proactive & experienced Nurse / AHP to work alongside the General Manager for Inpatients within Barnsley Physical Health and Wellbeing Care Group in the role of Team Manager for our Integrated Community Stroke Rehabilitation unit based at Kendray Hospital.
This role will include working in conjunction with:
General Manager, Operational Manager, Consultant in Stroke Services, Lead Practitioners and Professional & Quality Leads.
- Have responsibility for the operational delivery of the service ensuring the maintenance of clinical standards, patient safety and regulatory assurance, to provide high quality patient focused care.
- Provide support, leadership, and best practice guidance to teams, influencing good quality service delivery.
- Be an excellent communicator/negotiator with proven leadership and management skills ensuring effective utilisation of resources.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional standards, compassion and high standards of care.
- Motivate and influence others, work flexibly, autonomously, and responsively with a can‑do approach.
- Collaborate with a range of stakeholders and partners across the health and social care sector.
- Work across organisational boundaries, influencing teams using motivation and negotiation skills.
- Ensure the continuous management of the stroke/neuro rehabilitation pathway, providing 24/7 rehabilitation and evidence‑based care.
- Develop nursing/therapy practice and research, ensuring quality services.
- Provide clinical leadership and advise colleagues within the stroke/neuro rehabilitation pathway.
- Identify training needs and facilitate teaching, education and training of all staff, including students.
- Manage all resources at team/service level efficiently, including sickness and absence monitoring/management.
- Ensure all staff appraisals and training are completed appropriately.
- Recruit and select nursing/therapy staff.
- Deputise for the Operational Manager when required.
- Plan rosters, deploy and supervise day and night staff on a 24/7 basis, using the e‑roster system.
- Act as Learning Environment Manager, liaising with educational institutions.
- Safely custody and administer drugs in line with Trust policies, including controlled drugs.
- Control supplies, maintain sufficient stocks, manage and spend annual budget allowance, and order new equipment.
- Maintain a safe working environment, monitor incidents, accidents and complaints, and complete Datix reports.
- Update risk assessments, liaise with health and safety department and fulfill duty officer/fire marshal responsibilities.
- Ensure timely feedback within the team to maintain continuity of care and implement corrective actions.
- Input information into computer systems (e‑roster, System One, e‑mail, memos).
- Ensure senior nurse cover for the ward area, including weekend and bank holiday cover.
- Act as bed manager, accepting patients for transfer and identifying risks.
- Promote health and wellbeing of service users, maximizing partnership working with internal and external services.
- Provide hands‑on patient care and rehabilitation on an ad‑hoc basis.
- Recognise and verify deaths according to local procedures.
- Implement Trust health and safety procedures, infection control and other policies.
- Participate in research, audits, evidence‑based practice, innovations and NICE guidelines.
- Pursue training opportunities to improve professional knowledge and skills; participate in annual appraisal and clinical supervision.
- Support newly recruited staff, identifying training needs and participating in mentorship and preceptorship programmes.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper records, respecting confidentiality and legal requirements.
- Attend staff meetings and identified training, ensuring key information is delivered.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in the planning and development of the service, aligning with Trust Mission, Vision, Purpose, Values, Behaviours, Strategy and the business plan.
