Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist legal services to the Council and its partner agencies and key stakeholders across all aspects of general civil litigation.
  • Advise on areas including anti-social behaviour enforcement and remedies, possession proceedings, injunctions, closure orders and the Renters Rights Act.
  • Represent the Council in County Court and Tribunal hearings and undertake contested advocacy.
  • Maintain a sound understanding of data protection and Freedom of Information legislation to ensure compliance and effective operations.
  • Supervise a small team of lawyers and legal assistants, including conducting one-to-ones, providing training, and overseeing case management.
  • Develop an understanding of the workings of a local authority, including its constitution, decision-making processes, cultural and political environment, and Practice Management Standards.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Experience as a civil lawyer with capability across general civil litigation and related areas.
  • Good working knowledge of local authority operations, its constitution, decision-making process, and cultural/political environment.
  • Ability to supervise and develop a small team of lawyers and legal assistants.
  • Strong political sensitivity, responsiveness, and an ability to contribute to change management.
