We are seeking an experienced, motivated and compassionate Triage Midwife Lead to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight of our maternity triage service. This is a key role in ensuring women and birthing people receive safe, timely and high quality care at their first point of contact with maternity services.
Working 20 hours per week, the post holder will play a pivotal role in driving quality, safety and service improvement within triage, while supporting and developing the triage midwifery team.
The interview for this role will be 30th March 2026.
Main duties of the jobKey Responsibilities
Provide clinical and professional leadership for the maternity triage service
Ensure safe, effective and timely assessment, prioritisation and management of women presenting to triage
Lead on quality, safety and governance, including incident review, audit and learning
Support the development, supervision and appraisal of triage midwives
Contribute to service development, pathway redesign and implementation of best practice guidance
Work collaboratively with obstetric, neonatal, emergency and community teams
Act as a clinical role model, promoting compassionate, womancentred care

Person Specification Qualifications- Registered Midwife - with valid NMC registration ENB 997/998 or other equivalent teaching qualification
- Educated to post graduate Degree level/or equivalent
- Mentorship and preceptorship training
- Trained in extended roles (perineal repair, epidural top-ups, venipuncture, cannulation and IV additives
- Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course
- Newborn Life Support (NLS) course
- Basic life support training
- Demonstrable experience of taking charge of a ward environment
- Experience of leading and managing a team of nurses
- Previous experience of change management and problem solving
- Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints
