1406 - Children's Diabetes Nurse Specialist
Are you motivated, enthusiastic and keen to learn new skills? If so this role may be for you. We are looking for an experienced childrens nurse who is passionate about nursing children and young people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes within a hospital, school and home environment.
This is a 12-month secondment opportunity covering maternity leave. Diabetes experience is preferred but training can be provided for the successful applicant.
The job holder will work 30 hours Monday Friday 08:30 16:30 with additional on‑call duties ( where applicable )

Main duties of the jobTo provide a specialist nursing service to children with diabetes, young people and their families up to the age of 19. This will include providing education at diagnosis, delivering training in educational and hospital settings, participate in consultant clinics, provide advice and support during working hours. The team also operate an on call service which the successful applicant will be rostered onto after a period of time (dependant on qualifications)
You will be expected to develop competencies in the use of the fast‑growing advanced technologies now used in the management of children and young peoples diabetes including smart pens, continuous glucose monitors and hybrid closed loop pumps.
The post holder will carry out nurse prescribing duties within their sphere of responsibility following trust guidelines and procedures, both in the hospital and the community setting. The successful applicant will be fully supported in developing in their role and have opportunities for personal and professional development.

- Post Graduate Childrens Community Nursing Degree

- Relevant Diabetes Course or willing to undertake
- Willing to undertake further professional development
- Experience of looking after children with diabetes in either an acute or community setting
- Experience of nursing children in the community.
