Barnsley Hospice is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our In-Patient Unit team. In this fulfilling role, you will support registered nursing staff to deliver high-quality, holistic palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring dignity, comfort and respect for patients and their families at all times.

Your responsibilities will include providing personal and emotional support, maintaining accurate records, and helping to create a safe, calm and caring environment.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties &Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of a registered nurse, and in accordance with patient wishes, provide a high standard of holistic care to patients and their families.
  • Help to deliver, monitor and evaluate individual care plans to patients, communicating effectively to the multi-disciplinary team and seeking advice and support from colleagues as necessary.
  • Ensure that patient notes are updated accurately with relevant information on an ongoing basis.
  • Report complaints or concerns promptly to the IPU Sister or a more senior member of staff.
  • Follow Hospice procedures and protocols in caring for patients at all times in order to minimise health and safety, infection and other risks and to maintain a high-quality service.
  • Provide cover across hospice services required as needed.

Barnsley Hospice is a local charity providing specialist palliative and end of life care to hundreds of people each year, as well as support for those close to them. Our priority is to help people living with life-limiting illness achieve the best possible quality of life, while also supporting families and carers throughout illness and bereavement.

As a specialist care provider, we offer a wide range of skills and services including pain and symptom management, emotional support, and end of life care. The hospice employs approximately 100 staff and is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, based both at the hospice and within our Retail Hub.
