0461 - Trainee Cardio-respiratory Physiologist
We are seeking two Trainee Cardio-Respiratory Physiologists to join our department and begin a comprehensive training programme. This role combines academic study either a BSc Healthcare Science Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) or a Level 6 (or Level 4 progressing to Level
6) Healthcare Science Practitioner Apprenticeship alongside structured in service clinical training.
The training pathway typically takes three to four years
, depending on your entry level. During training, the post is Band 4, rising to Band 5 upon qualification
.
Essential Entry Requirements
- Minimum of two A levels, a foundation degree, Access to Health, or a Level 2 Healthcare Assistant apprenticeship (or equivalent).
- GCSE English and Mathematics (grade AC or equivalent).
- Demonstrable skills or experience in Cardiology and Respiratory physiological testing.

Funding is available to support progression to Band 7 Specialist Physiologist, subject to successful completion of all academic, professional, and in service training requirements and assessments.
Main duties of the jobThe trainee Physiologists will be trained to undertake the following investigations:
- Exercise tolerance testing
- Ambulatory electrocardiography
- Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
- Respiratory function tests
- Signal averaged electrocardiography
- Echocardiography
- Pacemaker implantation and checks
- Angiography (Haemodynamic monitoring)

Person Specification Experience- Demonstrable skills and experience of working in a Cardiology Department.
- 2 Science A levels (grade A to
C), or equivalent (complete level 6 apprenticeship). - Or level 2 HCS assistant must be willing to complete level 4 and level 6 apprenticeship.

C) in English and Mathematics.
