To ensure continued provision of Public Health Nursing services within Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council we are seeking to recruit a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) who is passionate about wanting to lead and support the provision of high-quality services.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for passionate and skilled Health Visitors and School Nurses to join our Public Health Nursing Service in Barnsley. In this role, you will deliver the Healthy Child Programme, providing evidence‑based care that promotes health, reduces inequalities, and safeguards children, young people, and families.

You will work closely with families to assess health needs, plan and implement interventions, and provide support for those with complex needs. This includes managing risk, undertaking safeguarding responsibilities, and contributing to multi‑agency working to achieve positive outcomes.

As part of the team, you will also lead public health initiatives within the community, mentor colleagues and students, and ensure high standards of clinical governance. Experienced practitioners will take a lead role in managing complex cases, supervising staff, and developing innovative approaches to care.

You will be a qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or School Nurse) with a Level 6 or above qualification and a commitment to continuous professional development. You will have experience of working in a community setting, delivering public health programmes, and safeguarding vulnerable children and families.
