Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer a Locally Employed Doctor (LED) role aimed at anaesthetists who are passionate about developing their career and looking to gain experience in Point of Care Ultrasound and Critical Care Echocardiography. The role is ideally suited to those trainees looking to develop their portfolio and enhance their skills in order to re-enter anaesthetic/critical care training to achieve CCT, trainees wanting to embark on an out of programme year to gain POCUS/Echocardiography training or senior clinicians looking to develop their portfolio prior to embarking on a CESR programme.
ResponsibilitiesThe Anaesthetic and Critical care department has a number of Consultants who provide Point of care Ultrasound, Transthoracic and Transoesophageal echocardiography to the Critical care unit. Consultants within the Critical Care department hold BSE ACCE Level 2, BSE Level 1 FUSIC HD and fTOE accreditation and are Supervisors and Mentors for BSE Level 2, BSE Level 1 FUSIC, FUSIC HD, EDEC and FAMUS.
The department runs an external twice yearly FUSIC course and has a track record of successfully taking many trainees through the multiple FUSIC and FAMUS accreditation process. The department also runs multiple ultrasound course throughout the year to medical students and junior doctors and possesses a Heartworks simulator to aid teaching of Ultrasound, TTE and TOE. The post involves providing day time anaesthetic and critical services to theatres and ICU and out of hour services/on call services as the Resident on call for the ICU and second on call for theatres.
One day a week (or equivalent time) will be dedicated to attaining the skills required to achieve FUSIC Heart, Lung, DVT, Abdomen and Vascular Access accreditation as well as in assisting, delivering, developing and being faculty on the FUSIC and other ultrasound courses run by the department. QI projects and involvement in the delivery of the weekly trainees anaesthetic and critical teaching program are encouraged.
Depending on progress, there is the possibility of further more advanced training to gain BSE Level 1 accreditation and clinical exposure to TOE.
All Trust appointed doctors are required to engage with continuing professional development guided by the Royal College of Anaesthesia. There is also a programme of mandatory training which all relevant staff must complete as required. If required, the successful applicant will also benefit from support from the college tutor and a named educational supervisor to help achieve CT3/4 equivalent (Stage 1 Top Up) Training requirements where applicable.

The cost of the DBS (criminal records check) for Band 6 and above roles only will be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction.
