Job Responsibilities
  • Act as a senior community podiatrist within the community setting of Barnsley, assessing, treating, diagnosing, managing and discharging all appropriately triaged patients across all sub‑specialities of Podiatry (Wound Care, MSK/Biomechanics, Nail Surgery and Core Podiatry).
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively with other NHS community services to deliver high‑quality care against national standards and frameworks.
  • Assist and work alongside other advanced clinical podiatrists on planning, developing and implementing podiatry care strategies in line with national and local targets, guidelines and frameworks.
  • Actively engage and participate in clinical supervision, appraisals, student supervision and teaching.
  • Participate in evidence‑based research opportunities deemed appropriate for the role.
Person Specification Special Knowledge and Skills – Essential
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills at all levels.
  • Maintain good working relationships with healthcare professionals, service users and carers.
  • Write accurate reports on patient health and care needs.
  • Organisational and time‑management skills in a demanding service.
  • Work autonomously, making decisions based on clinical skills, experience and best practice.
  • Analyse and investigate complex patients, interpreting clinical and social findings to plan effective treatment.
  • Good dexterity, hand‑eye and sensory coordination for use of fine tools and machinery.
  • Basic keyboard skills.
  • Flexible working to meet the demands of the service.
Experience – Essential
  • Experience at Band 5 level or above in a community setting with an independent caseload.
  • Experience working autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary settings.
  • Experience in assessing, diagnosing and managing a wide range of patients with common comorbidities.
  • Accessing prescription‑only medication via appropriate legal avenues.
  • Awareness and experience of setting & maintaining clinical standards and audit.
  • Evidence of contribution to change within the workplace.
  • Understanding of the evolving role of podiatry.
  • Previous student supervision experience.
Personal Attributes – Essential
  • Flexibility of working times, including out‑of‑hours/weekend work when necessary.
  • Understands travel duties to patients’ homes, other hospitals and community venues.
  • Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments considered).
Qualifications – Essential
  • BSc Degree in Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified before 1992).
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registered.
  • Certificate of Local Anaesthesia.
  • POM‑A and/or S.
Qualifications – Desirable
  • Membership to an appropriate governing body.
  • Non‑Medical Prescribing (v300).
Physical Attributes – Essential
  • Satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years.
  • Good dexterity, hand‑eye and sensory coordination.
