As our Head of Department for Construction, you will lead and inspire a talented team of lecturers, curriculum managers and support staff across a broad and ambitious curriculum. From traditional construction trades to specialist clean-energy pathways, you will ensure every learner benefits from outstanding teaching, learning and assessment across Further Education, Higher Education, Adult Learning and Apprenticeships. You will help shape a future-focused department with a strong emphasis on Clean Energy and emerging technologies, contributing directly to the development of a skilled workforce for South Yorkshire and beyond.
You will take full ownership of the strategic and operational leadership of the Construction department, driving continuous improvement and leading with clarity, purpose and vision. You will set, monitor and deliver stretching quality, curriculum and financial targets, ensuring your team consistently aspires to excellence. Your leadership style will be collaborative, supportive and empowering - you will coach and develop colleagues, promote innovation, and embed a culture of high performance and professional growth.
Curriculum development will be central to your role. You will oversee the design and delivery of engaging, industry-relevant programmes from Entry Level to Higher Education, ensuring alignment with local labour-market needs, national skills priorities and technical-education reforms. You will lead cross-college projects, contribute to strategic initiatives and play an active part in shaping the wider direction of the college.
Alongside academic leadership, you will manage budgets, staffing and resources effectively. You will work closely with awarding bodies, industry partners and employers to maintain high standards, ensure compliance and provide excellent opportunities for learners to gain meaningful real-world experience. You will strengthen employer partnerships, support recruitment and retention, and help drive the sustained growth and success of the department.
This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact. You will join a passionate leadership team committed to raising aspirations, delivering excellence and achieving positive outcomes for all learners.
We are seeking a driven, strategic leader with a strong commitment to technical education and the vision to take our Construction department forward. You will bring a proven track record of leadership in an educational or industry setting, with the ability to inspire teams, lead change and deliver excellent results for learners.
You will be confident in shaping curriculum that responds to learner needs and industry demand, and comfortable working across FE, HE, Adult Learning and Apprenticeships. You will be a confident decision-maker, equally capable of delivering strategic leadership and engaging with day-to-day operations. You will be data-informed, financially astute and focused on continuous improvement. Your leadership style will be inclusive, empowering and rooted in building trust and strong professional relationships.
Ideally, you will have experience of working with employers and industry bodies, understanding how to build effective partnerships that enrich learning and enhance employability. You will be comfortable with inspection frameworks, quality processes and the importance of safeguarding, inclusion and learner wellbeing. Above all, you will be ambitious for your team and learners, forward-thinking, committed to excellence and motivated to shape the future of construction education.
