Role overviewAs an Education Welfare Officer you will develop positive working relationships with schools and academies to identify pupils at risk of severe and persistent absence. You will work alongside schools to improve attendance, inclusion and access to education. Through partnership working with parents and pupils you will identify need and negotiate pathways to regular attendance, focusing on vulnerable groups to ensure all pupils achieve best outcomes.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain positive relationships with schools and academies.
- Identify pupils at risk of severe and persistent absence.
- Work with schools to improve attendance, inclusion and access to education.
- Partner with parents and pupils to negotiate pathways to regular attendance.
- Produce evidence‑based reports and maintain up‑to‑date records.
- Support the Every Child in School Everyday Plan to improve attendance, reduce suspensions and exclusions.
- 4 GCSEs at grades A‑C, or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, and willingness to work towards an NVQ level 4.
- Experience of working in home‑school liaison to negotiate positive outcomes for pupils.
- Knowledge, experience and skills to complete assessments in line with Barnsley’s assessment and threshold criteria.
- Good communication skills and proven ability to keep up‑to‑date records.
- Flexible and resilient approach, able to work under pressure.
- English spoken to an appropriate standard.
- Enhanced DBS Check.
- Applicants living abroad must procure overseas criminal records check.
- Must have necessary legal documents such as a valid visa;
