The Role:- The SEND Specialist Skills Coach will provide tailored academic and learning support to learners on programme who have identified or emerging additional learning needs. Support may range from one-off targeted interventions (e.g. support with percentages, functional skills, assignment structuring or exam preparation) to regular, ongoing support for learners with more complex needs.
- The role is critical in enabling learners to fully engage with their apprenticeship programme, make measurable progress, and achieve successful outcomes. The post holder will be responsible for accurately recording all support delivered to ensure compliance with Learning Support Funding (LSF) requirements and DfE apprenticeship funding rules.
- Support will be delivered through a combination of online and face-to-face sessions.
Role Responsibilities:
Learner Support
- Deliver tailored 1:1 and small group interventions to learners with additional learning needs.
- Provide targeted support in areas including:
- Functional Skills (maths and English), including topics such as percentages and exam techniques.
- Assignment planning, structuring and academic writing.
- Study skills, organisation and revision strategies.
- Confidence building and independent learning strategies.
- Provide regular, structured support for learners with more complex or ongoing needs.
- Develop and implement individual support strategies and reasonable adjustments.
- Promote learner independence and progression over time.
- Monitor and review learner progress at each intervention.
- Deliver high-quality, structured sessions both online and face-to-face.
- Plan sessions with clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Adapt delivery methods to meet a range of additional learning needs (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, autism, SEMH, anxiety and other learning differences).
- Accurately record all support delivered, including session focus, duration, impact and learner progress.
- Ensure all documentation meets Learning Support Funding (LSF) evidence requirements.
- Maintain full compliance with DfE apprenticeship funding rules.
- Submit timely and audit-ready records to enable LSF claims.
- Work closely with compliance and quality teams to ensure funding integrity.
- Work collaboratively with Skills Coaches and programme tutors to identify learners requiring support.
- Contribute to support plans and review learner progress regularly.
- Provide clear feedback to programme teams on learner development and recommended adjustments.
- Respond promptly to new learner referrals.
- Deliver a minimum of 12 structured support interventions per week (pro rata for part-time staff).
- Each intervention must include clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Maintain strong learner attendance and engagement levels.
- Evidence measurable progress at each intervention through:
- Documented session objectives and outcomes
- Learner feedback
- Improved quality of assignments or Functional Skills performance
- Increased learner confidence and independence
- Contribute to improved retention, achievement and timely completion rates for supported learners.
- 100% of interventions recorded accurately and within agreed internal timescales.
- All evidence is compliant with LSF requirements and DfE funding rules.
- No funding clawback resulting from incomplete or non-compliant documentation.
- Audit-ready documentation maintained at all times.
- Positive learner satisfaction feedback (target 90%+ where measured).
- Positive feedback from programme teams regarding impact and collaboration.
- Support plans in place and regularly reviewed for all learners receiving ongoing support.
- Initial contact with referred learners within 5 working days.
- Active participation in case reviews and progress meetings.
Essential Criteria
- Experience supporting learners with SEND or additional learning needs.
- Strong understanding of inclusive practice and differentiated delivery.
- Experience delivering Functional Skills support (maths and/or English).
- Ability to deliver engaging sessions online and face-to-face.
- Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
