The Barnet Critical Care team is looking to appoint enthusiastic Band 5's who have a minimum of nine months post NMC registration experience in an acute clinical setting. We are seeking to appoint motivated and dynamic Registered Nurses who wish to pursue a structured Band 5 to 6 critical care development.

The Barnet Intensive Care unit comprises of 18 beds, 9 level 2 and 9 level 3. The unit admits more than 1,000 patients per year. Specialties include general medical and surgical patients, patients requiring renal replacement therapy, and those requiring invasive and non-invasive ventilation.

To equip you with the correct knowledge, skills, and attitude to become a competent and confident critical care registered nurse, we will provide you with:

Supernumerary, structured orientation programme that will be individualized to your professional needs

Dedicated band 7 staff member and team who will guide and mentor you throughout your development.

Training on specialist equipment used in ITU.

Enrolment on to the university accredited Introduction to Critical Care course after completion of unit and Trust competencies.

1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence based care using a defined model of care in conjunction with senior staff.
  • With the supervision of senior staff competently manage critical care therapies i.e. Endotracheal tubes, tracheostomies, artificial ventilation, invasive cardiac monitoring, cardiac output monitoring tools, inotropic therapy, paralysing agents and sedation.
  • To develop skills in analysing and interpreting complex data derived from patient monitoring and plan appropriate care with supervision of senior staff.
  • To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are adhered to.
  • To communicate with patients and significant others with empathy and reassurance regarding, assessment, care and treatment.
  • To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records using appropriate documentation.
  • Liaise with the multidisciplinary team and the Critical Care Outreach team to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for patients being discharged to wards/referring hospitals.
