This role is ideal for a current or former Healthcare Assistant who is ready to advance to a more specialist level of care within a highly supportive and award‑winning team at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.
Job OverviewAs a Band 4 Specialist Carer you will provide life‑changing palliative care for babies, children and young people with life‑limiting or life‑threatening conditions. You will work closely with families, multidisciplinary teams and your fellow Noah’s Ark colleagues to create personalised care plans, promote play and joy, and support families to achieve the maximum quality of life possible.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver person‑centred care for children and young people, focusing on what they can do rather than their limitations.
- Lead and participate in care planning reviews, projects and meetings, and support the training of junior colleagues.
- Provide compassionate end‑of‑life care and act as a reassuring presence for families.
- Collaborate with families, multidisciplinary teams and community partners to ensure seamless care delivery both at the hospice and in the community.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures under the delegation of a registered children’s nurse.
- Minimum GCSE grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent).
- QCF/NVQ level 2 or 3 health and social care (or equivalent) or relevant care certificate.
- At least 2 years of experience caring for children with life‑threatening or life‑limiting conditions, including special needs.
- Demonstrated play‑based approach and ability to create engaging activities for children.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and capability to manage own caseload.
- Evidence of coaching or supporting junior staff.
- Experience leading meetings, projects and care plan reviews.
- Enthusiastic, kind and committed to delivering high‑quality care.
- Flexible with availability for unsocial hours – evenings, nights, weekends and last‑minute changes.
- Confident and initiative to work independently across varied home environments and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Passionate about developing nursing care skills and competency of self and others.
- Committed to ongoing competency‑based training and assessment of complex nursing care.
- Adopts a mature approach to personal and professional boundaries with children, young people and families.
