Position: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you a compassionate and committed professional with experience in supporting children with Autism? A warm and inclusive infant school in Barnet is seeking a part-time SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a delightful child starting Reception. This role is ideal for someone who is confident, nurturing, and looking to make a real difference two days per week – Mondays and Fridays.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support a child who will be taking their first steps into school life. The school is known for its excellent facilities, welcoming team, and strong commitment to SEN inclusion.

About the Role:

• Support a Reception-aged child with complex needs, including Autism and limited verbal communication

• Use visual aids and language development tools (e.g., core boards, PECS, Makaton)

• Provide personal care, including nappy changing, in a respectful and supportive manner

• Create a calm, engaging learning environment tailored to the child’s needs

• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and family to ensure continuity of care and progress

Requirements
Ideal Candidate:

• Previous experience supporting children with Autism or complex SEN in EYFS/early primary

• Familiarity with strategies for non-verbal communication

• Comfortable with intimate care (training can be provided)

• Patient, empathetic, and responsive to children’s emotional and sensory needs

• DBS checked and eligible to work in the UK
