Consultant - CAMHS

The North London NHS Foundation Trust seeks to appoint an enthusiastic full-time consultant psychiatrist to CYPMH Barnet Enhanced Support team (BEST), a well-established, high-functioning and hard working multidisciplinary team. The post has become available as the previous long standing consultant has retired from the post.

This post offers 10 Programmed Activities per week - 7 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and up to 3 PAs for supporting professional activity (SPA). The post holder will be required to provide clinical and professional leadership and to take part in related management activities. As a senior clinician, the post holder will have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities.

General Expectations of a Consultant Psychiatrist employed with North London NHS Foundation Trust include

o To work within the MDT promoting respect for all professional groups and focusing upon coherent and integrated teamwork.

o To be Section 12(2) approved and have approved clinician status and participate in the Trust-wide Section 12 daytime rota.

o To provide second opinions for consultant colleagues if requested.

o To keep up with administration and note-keeping on the electronic patient record system in a timely manner, including letters to GPs, Dialog+ and risk assessments.

o To assist with Serious Incident investigations and complaints if requested.

o To keep up to date with mandatory training.

o To attend and participate in Consultants' and Management meetings to keep informed of service issues and developments.

o Other management/clinical supporting activity (to be negotiated as required by the Trust.)

The post holder will be expected to share the clinical leadership for the BEST with the team manager and therapy leads in the team.

The post-holder will be expected:
To manage an established caseload To contribute to the management of clients under the care of non-medical staff and give medical input to their management plans. To develop treatment plans for 2-3 new clients per month To comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g. Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures To complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work To teach and supervise medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care To participate in the weekly team meeting and undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.

• Qualifications or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
• Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date
• Included on the GMC LD Specialist Register OR within six months
• Approved clinician
• Section 12 Approval
• In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
• Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative

• Excellent knowledge in specialty
• Excellent clinical skills using biopsycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
• Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
• Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
• Wide range of specialist and subspecialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
