Consultant Cardiologist – Advanced Imaging/Echocardiography

Replacement post delivering complex echocardiography and general cardiology services to the Royal Free, London NHS Foundation Trust, predominantly at Barnet Hospital.

Post holder will contribute to a 1 in 9 cardiology 7/7 'Consultant of the Week' on‑call model al of 6 weeks and 7 weekends per year, covering until lunchtime on weekends. Bank holidays covered with additional leave. This is a substantive post.

• Provide overall care for patients across inpatient, outpatient and echo diagnostic services at Barnet.
• Supervise echo department lists, support and train staff, and help develop the service.
• Participate in advanced cardiac imaging, including transthoracic echo, stress echo and TOE.
• Attend weekly cardiac imaging MDT across sites.
• Contribute to general cardiology as 'Consultant of the Week', performing daily CCU and routine cardiology ward rounds, and acute medical take consults.
• Deliver outpatient clinical care: average clinic template of 5 new patients and 4–5 follow‑up appointments (face‑to‑face or virtual).
• Support audit programme and undergraduate teaching/educational supervision.
• Develop and lead local stress echo, TOE and advanced imaging initiatives.

• Sub‑specialty expertise in echocardiography; independent operator in advanced echo (TOE and stress echo).
• MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
• Accreditation from the British Society of Echocardiography or equivalent.
• Full registration with GMC Specialist Register, complete CCT/CESR registration.
• Active research participation (desirable).
• Experience in service transformation & clinical leadership (desirable).
• Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent) (desirable).
• Experience working in UK healthcare (desirable).

• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Motivated, flexible and enthusiastic.
