General Maintenance Technician

We are currently recruiting a General Maintenance Technician to support a large retail portfolio, carrying out planned and reactive non-technical maintenance across multiple sites within a defined region. This is a hands-on role suited to a practical, customer-focused individual with a strong general maintenance background.

You will be responsible for completing a wide range of general maintenance tasks to ensure sites are safe, compliant, and well maintained. All work must be completed to a high standard, in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planned and reactive non-technical maintenance works

• General building fabric repairs (walls, floors, doors, fixtures, etc.)

• Minor plumbing and sanitaryware maintenance (taps, toilets, urinals, sinks, drains)

• Maintenance of surface and foul water drainage systems

• Car park maintenance (bollards, barriers, trolley bays, surfaces)

• Minor HVAC tasks including:

  • Air filter cleaning/replacement

  • Belt replacement or re-tensioning

  • Lubrication of motors and fan bearings

  • Cleaning of heating/cooling coils and condensate drains

• Assisting multi-skilled technicians when required

• Completing PPMs and logging remedial actions accurately

• Responding to helpdesk service calls and prioritising tasks effectively

• Completing surveys and reports as required

• Ordering parts and materials where necessary

• Ensuring all work complies with health & safety and statutory requirements

You may be aligned to a specific area but will occasionally be required to attend other sites within the wider region.

Essential requirements:

• GCSE-level education

• Building trade qualification (NVQ / City & Guilds)

• Previous experience in general building maintenance

• Ability to carry out a wide range of fabric, plumbing, and grounds maintenance

• Competent using steps and ladders and comfortable working at heights

• PC / tablet literate (Apple & Android)

• Full UK driving licence

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Hands-on, flexible, and customer-focused approach

Desirable:

• Time-served apprenticeship

• Knowledge of water byelaws

• L8 Legionella awareness

• Previous retail maintenance experience
