Manufacturing Engineer, Injection Molding
A Tool Design Engineer is responsible for designing molds for thermoplastic injection and extrusion blow molding processes. This position requires a strong understanding of mold design principles, material properties, and manufacturing techniques to ensure efficient, high-quality mold production. The designer will collaborate with engineers, production teams, and suppliers to create cost-effective, durable, and precise molds that meet product specifications and quality standards.
EssentialDuties
- Design injection and extrusion blow molds for manufacturing plastic parts, ensuring they meet customer specifications and requirements.
- Use CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, Solid Works) to create detailed mold designs and 3D models.
- Specify appropriate mold materials and determine the necessary mold features (e.g., gate location, cooling systems, venting, and parting lines) to reduce cycle times and improve part quality.
- Design tooling for complex features, such as undercuts, inserts, slides, and ejection systems.
- Ensure that the tooling is robust and that it meets the established criteria and specifications.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing mold designs to increase efficiency, reduce wear, or lower production costs.
- Work closely with product engineers, toolmakers, and production teams to refine designs and ensure compatibility with injection and extrusion blow molding processes.
- Coordinate with suppliers to source materials and components for mold production.
- Troubleshoot mold issues and recommend corrective actions to improve production quality.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Technology, or related engineering degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in new tool design.
- 5 years of experience in a plastics molding environment preferred.
- Experienced with safe working practices.
