School Standards Board - Community Member; Governor

Overview

We are seeking committed individuals from the local community and all walks of life to join the Schools Standards Board (SSB) at The Beacon School.

• Fixed‑term, voluntary contract – 4 years
• Start:
As soon as possible
• Expiry: 13 February 2026, 11:59 PM

• Monitor and contribute to the school’s development plan, focusing on key improvement priorities.
• Serve as the Trust Board’s interface with key stakeholders – parents, staff and the community – gathering and responding to feedback.
• Maintain community links and provide regular feedback to the Trust Board on school performance and stakeholder input.
• Influence the Trust’s overall strategy.
• Attend training and undertake school visits relevant to your responsibilities.
• Attend formal SSB meetings (half‑term sessions, 6 meetings per year) and follow an annual work plan.

• Strategic thinker contributing to school priorities.
• Strong listening, reflection, and learning from diverse viewpoints.
• Clear expectation setting for school leaders.
• Analytical ability to interpret data and statistics.
• Confidence to ask questions and challenge leaders appropriately.
• Marketing skills valued.

• Excellent training & support – no prior educational experience required.
• Travel expenses claimable if needed.
