We are supported by a 24/7 in-house call-center and provide scheduled maintenance services and unscheduled services to fleets anywhere, anytime.
Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.
- Perform licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision, continuing to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Engine electronics, Diesel steering, Transmissions, Clutches, Differentials, and more.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair equipment including electrical systems, air conditioning, engine electronics, and powertrain components.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Collaborate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve issues, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using an iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule with a focus on safety and compliance with policies and regulations.
- Maintain high productivity and operate within standard repair times when possible.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Ensure all work complies with organizational safety, health and environmental policies and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain company-issued service truck and perform safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience; alternative combinations may be acceptable (e.g., higher-level degree/certification or 5 years’ related experience).
- Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Must be able to complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical. A current DOT medical card may be submitted in lieu of a physical if valid beyond four months of expiration; otherwise a physical is required.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operation and have a valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain Driver Qualification File.
- Undergo a DOT-regulated pre-employment background check and DOT physical prior to employment if the DOT medical card is not valid for more than four months.
- REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS OR OBTAINED WITHIN 18 MONTHS: ASE T8 (PMI).
- Preferred certifications include ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), and T8/609 format where applicable.
- Understand implications of new information for problem-solving and decision-making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; capable of moderately heavy labor.
- Physical endurance for long periods and repetitive tasks.
- Clear, concise, two-way communication with individuals and groups.
- Ability to determine tools and equipment needed for tasks.
- Ability to assess distances and spatial relationships.
- Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternatives and solve problems.
